As part of our ongoing "Getting to
Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Gary Combs of Agape Garage Doors, LLC.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Since
1989, we’ve been at the same Humble location, repairing and installing
garage doors for residential and commercial properties. We are a
family-owned and operated company with four qualified service
technicians and two installers. We service all brands of garage doors
and openers, Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm.
In
the past few years, we've experienced phenomenal growth because of our
dedication to customer service and our reputation of providing quality
products at affordable prices. We've completed contracts on every size
project from single doors to thirty bay warehouses, entire neighborhoods
and multifamily residences. Experts for all garage door needs, we focus
on quickly repairing broken springs and cables, doors that are out of
track and addressing noisy openers.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
I accidentally stumbled into garage door maintenance and installations after working 15 years as a paint contractor.
I went to work at a company that offered both painting services and
door installations and started working on the install side. I loved the
install side and decided to start this garage door business with my
partners.
One of my partners, Phil Rogers,
manages all the commercial installations and repairs. He been with Agape
for 21 years and has over 30 years in the door business. My daughter,
Nicole Miller, is the brains of the operations.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I’m
most proud that we are a Christian-based company that provides superior
customer service with honesty and integrity as a witness to God’s love.
What is your favorite part of running this business?Meeting and building relationships with local community members is my
favorite part. I love getting to know people and lifting their spirits.
I
also serve as the Praise and Worship leader at Sheldon Baptist Church
in Sheldon, Texas, and have run another ministry for the past 10 years
that is based in The Woodlands. Through song, testimony and meal
offerings, we serve seniors and those in prisons or halfway houses in
our ministry; our focus is on stopping the addiction epidemic.
After
being a terrible alcoholic for years and now being sober for 32 years, I
am living proof that there is life after addiction.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best? Our
ideal customer is a homeowner or small business who needs their garage
doors repaired or installed with high quality workmanship at a fair
price with same day service, or close to it, for emergency response. You
can contact us any time by phone or through
Facebook.
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We
are completely focused on our local community including Humble,
Kingwood, Fall Creek and Summerwood. We are very active with our
neighbors.
Along with members of Lakeside
Methodist Church, we rendered aid during the recent hurricane. After the
hurricane, we dropped our prices and helped our neighbors get their
properties restored. Over the years, we’ve also provided assistance
during other local natural disasters.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We will continue to grow with the Humble/Kingwood area, helping with ANY garage service or installation that is needed.
