With our increasing dependence on debit and credit card transactions, MCSO wants to provide a little information to you regarding skimmers.
In recent years, credit card fraud and identity theft have steadily increased, and many of those crimes involved the use of credit card skimmers.
Skimmers have been found on fuel dispensers and ATMs across the country. Criminals use these devices to secretly steal credit and debit card information, which is used to commit fraud and identity theft.
You can protect yourself by taking some simple steps to deter criminals from installing skimmers, and detect skimmers if they have been installed...
1. Check your account regularly for any suspicious activity. 2. If paying at the pump, use a pump that is close to the attendants. If the pump seal is broken or doesn't have one DON'T USE IT. If the lock looks tampered don't use it. 3. Pay inside when possible. 4. Check the credit card machine or ATM for any tampering or any skimming device being added to where you insert your credit card.
Someone went to Main Street restaurant in Tomball on Saturday and charged $118 to my card.... I hate this world we are living in... cash was much better, everything was much better, sick to death of doctors expecting me to use those portal things , that don't cooperate with me lol .. i had 18 pages to fill out at one doctor, and you have to sign your life away or they won't see you... shall I go on lol
@Starlight13 : Technology is supposed to simplify things, it does in some ways but complicates in other ways. My husband says humans will be gone eventually, that we will be replaced with robots....he watches too much sci-fi lol.
Technology simplifies nothing for me, it's great for those that want to control us... I think I might be into the conspiracy theory, but that could be caused by the excessive heat I am having to endure on top of my head 😂😂😂😂
Well, look at the other side of the coin: AI is watching your spending habit and it will warn you/stop payment when it detects something out of ordinary. I filled gas at a downtown location the other day. My credit card company called to ask if it's me because they know I usually don't go downtown... The best part is they never hold me responsible for unauthorized spending, never.
