The National Weather Service continues to monitor Tropical Storm Nicholas as the storm tracks north/northwest in the Gulf of Mexico.

The exact track of Tropical Storm Nicholas remains uncertain but an anticipated landfall is expected near Matagorda Bay; an eastern track would mean more time over water which would allow the storm to strengthen while a westward track would mean greater rainfall potential further inland with weaker winds and less storm surge.

The current lack of storm organization has made track forecast difficult.

Tropical storm force winds will arrive in Galveston Bay around Monday evening.

Tropical Storm watches and warnings are in effect for coastal areas.

Montgomery County can expect to see on average 4-6 inches of rain with some portions of the county seeing as much as 10-15 inches.

Detailed amounts of rainfall will depend on the exact track and speed of the storm.

Montgomery County agencies and resources are monitoring the situation and are prepared to take action as needed.

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will continue to monitor these storms, and will send updates as we receive them.
