Just received a call from Bob's Steakhouse-they are closing permanently. We had reservations there for our anniversary. Said the San Antonio and Austin locations were still open. Wonder why The Woodlands one closed? The time we were there they were packed!
I do think it's the business. When you think of the high rate of influx of younger people of diverse backgrounds and eating habits into TW, for work, etc over the last 3-4 years, I do believe there is a correlation. Traditional local cuisine (institutions?) where you can sit down and enjoy a meal and a taste of the history of TW, for more than hour has suffered, like Skeeter's Mesquite Grill, and steakhouses that have stood for decades maybe, like the one you just mentioned, in favor trendier, but street food style places like Torchy's Taco, etc. Again, not arguing if it's a good or bad thing, but that's just the facts.
Just saw a statement from the owners. They said that the downturn of the oil business, caterings/events and bookings or lack thereof, contributed to the closure. It said that they had a solid dinner business. Hate to hear about places like this closing down. I remember when we only had Amerigos years ago. Now we have Robards, Kirby’s, Fleming’s, Perry’s, Fogo, and more. Tough business!
