Read about that this morning. I've never been able to understand why anyone would put their life in danger with a car like that. My wife brought up a good questions. Are they sure there was no one in that drivers seat? Got a passenger in front, a passenger in back. Seems likely if there were only 2 people in that car, both would be up front. Was there a driver that escaped? Was the guy in the back thrown to the back due to the crash?

@WoodlandsSparky : I bet they had been having an evening together with friends. They probably decided to demonstrate the auto pilot and it was a demonstration gone bad. They were 69 and 59 years old.

@cabeuser : Sounds logical but wouldn't it make more sense to sit in drivers seat in case there was a problem? Human overide auto pilot? Oh well, sad to hear and condolences to the families.

Its a sad story all around. Most likely the car owner was "showing off" to his friend that the car could pilot itself without anyone even needing to be in front seat.

The scary thing is to realize that there are people on the roads that fully think its ok to not pay attention at all because "the car can handle everything". There was a video recently of a driver sleeping, with seat fully reclined, going down the interstate.

Trust for me goes to God, and the abilities bestowed upon us. Machines and AI, are not meant to lead, assist perhaps, but never to lead...
