@Starlight13 : Sounds fun! I love running and biking so much, but I am sure by the time I have time for it I may not be able. Emoticon

@DEEDEE8 :

The fun wears off and like any exercise it can become a chore, I am thankful I have to go up and down my stairs a lot.

It's about time to go back to the original topic. Finally I realized where this turkey cooking in a bag idea came from: sous vide (under vacuum) cooking!

But since sous vide is usually done under much lower temperature (< 135F), maybe it's OK. But in a 400F oven? I doubt it. Please be safe so you can still have another one next year! Emoticon

@Starlight13 : Sous vide is widely used. The process is that food is prepared and sealed in plastic bags. It is then heated in a pot of water at certain temperatures while being circulated by a device. Chef Thomas Keller of the French Laundry in Napa helped to make it more common in the home kitchen. Many restaurants use this technique to ensure portion and quality control. I do not have one but learned about it when I did cooking demos at William Sonoma.

Well, worst case is plastics may release estrogenic chemicals, which may make your husband weaker, but will make you stronger. Emoticon

@Starlight13 : I have used sous vide just a couple of times. I have a friend who owns a small chain of restaurants in the middle of the country and he uses the sous vide method to ensure consistency and to ensure portion control. It is a way for restaurants to Have a good quality control. I would not use this at home. As for the plastic and the toxicity, I cannot give you any Data on this. I know It is not like the microwave with the intense heat so I just don't know.

They say it's safe to use to 195°F, but didn't say what will happen at 196°F.
