The Woodlands is a 27,000 acre master planned community founded in 1974,
located 28 miles north of downtown Houston.
In the 1980 census The Woodlands had a little over 8,400 residents; since that time it has experienced unparalleled growth. Currently the
population of The Woodlands is estimated to be over 90,000 residents. It is no surprise that the combination of excellent
housing options, great
schools, an abundance of
parks and retail
shopping combine to make The Woodlands an attractive place to live.
The Woodlands is also a great place to
work.
Many large companies have chosen to make The Woodlands their corporate home including Chevron Phillips, Huntsman,
Anadarko, Hewitt Associates, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Mersk Sealand, and Woodforest National Bank. Although many residents still commute into Houston, the number of local
job opportunities grows every year.

The environment and green space has always been a priority in The Woodlands. An emphasis on preserving the beauty of the natural environment, and setting aside large amounts of land for
parks, has played a key role in shaping the growth of The Woodlands. This is evident in the 160 miles of
hike and bike trails reaching across all
Villages. Community leaders have taken the initiative to educate residents by providing "green" tips and resources for healthy sustainable living through various programs offered by the Environmental Services Department.

The Woodlands also offers some of the best
retail stores available in the Houston area. But you don't have to be from out of town to take advantage of all the great Woodlands
dining,
shopping and
entertainment The Woodlands has to offer. Residents find The Woodlands to be the perfect place for great shopping whether it is at
The Woodlands Mall,
Market Street, or in the boutique shoppes in
Town Center and surrounding areas.
The excellent
schools located in The Woodlands also attract young families to this area. Whether you are looking for superior preschool options or have school age children, a great education is waiting for children growing up in The Woodlands community. Based on the most recent (2009) SAT Subject Performance Comparisons
Conroe ISD, ranks far above both Texas and national standards.
The Woodlands also has a host of
entertainment venues throughout town, most notably with The
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The Pavilion is a concert amphitheater which caters to both performing art and contemporary musical artists. Top name performers regularly include
The Pavilion on the concert tour schedules. In addition to the Pavilion, The Woodlands has a host of small entertainment and
event venues -- there's almost always something interesting going on in The Woodlands, and TheWoodlandsTX
events calendar is here to keep you in the know at all times.
