Upcoming May 9 election could result in allocation of $105 million to fix traffic woes
On May 9,
Montgomery County residents in general and Precinct 3 residents in
particular, will have the opportunity to vote on a road bond proposal
recently approved by Commissioners Court. The proposed $350 million bond
targets 77 projects throughout Montgomery County, including $105
million of expenditures in Precinct 3.
Montgomery
County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack is keenly aware of the
traffic problems his precinct faces and the county as a whole. With the
help of the community and many other entities, I led the effort to
establish a mobility plan for Precinct 3, The South Montgomery County
Mobility Plan. This plan identifies and prioritizes our mobility needs;
it is the basis for the Precinct 3 projects selected for the current
road bond. After more than two years of planning, its time for the
voters to have their say.
The
projects on the bonds were determined by precinct residents, Noack and
his fellow precinct commissioners, engineers and other experts.
Montgomery County Commissioners Court took the original number of
proposed projects well over 100 and determined the 77 essential
projects that could, based on the countys recent and projected growth,
be performed in a bond amount that should not require an increase in
taxes.
For Precinct 3, the top five road improvement projects are:
- the widening of Robinson Road to four lanes from I-45 to the railroad tracks;
- the widening of Lake Woodlands Drive to six lanes from east of Lake Front Circle to I-45;
- the widening of Rayford Road to six lanes;
- the
construction of an overpass at the Rayford Road railroad crossing to
alleviate major traffic problems for local residents and commuters; and
- funding for signal and intersection improvements throughout the district, enhancing mobility and safety throughout Precinct 3.
