Life includes politics, taxes and rain. We have an important election coming up. It is normal for people to be concerned and talk about the election.

No matter how hard you try to avoid politics on here, it just doesn't happen!

Yeah for the most part I don't click on the political post titles here...I'll go elsewhere for those types of conversations. Just like I probably wouldn't post about The Woodlands on a forum that is mainly about current events/politics. I've noticed a lot of those posts pop up on Taco Tuesdays, I think people to get their post count up and they are a surefire way to do so

Yes I have noticed all of the politics. Why discuss politics? I'd rather discuss the rain, it ends summer activities like going to the pool. I was mentioning all the politiciking because someone had posted about the 'Gold Card'. I believe I'd seen it years before for another president. I can't legally vote anymore, but I'm sure that all of you will make great decisions in your voting!

If you can't legally vote why do you bother questioning those that can for posting on the topic?

I could vote but now being a U.S. Citizen/ Illegal Immigrant I cannot anymore. I accidently let my voter's registration run out before the law change. So I'm a little upset over this. My dad went in and showed them all the paperwork. They think the Children's Act of 2000 applies to me, which I don't believe it does. Anyways long story....

How can you be a us citizen and an illegal immigrant. Isn't it either/or? How were you eligible to vote before?

I was eligible because I am a US Citizen...I would have got the Certificate of Citizenship for the U.S. (born in Canada)but I was adopted, so they asked me where my birth parents papers were. My birth family goes all the way back to 1514 in the US but Texas is closed adoptions. With the new law I have to prove that I was born in the U.S. to renew my driver's license. I have nothing that says I was. I have to have a driver's license to vote for verification. Fun times!

This seems to be tunring into an anti voter ID conversation!
I left the site due to the intense political discussions here. I am just starting to drop in once in a while after a few months away.

I think you should provide ID to vote! You provide ID for everything else.

I have no problem showing my ID but I can't get my license renewed without proof of being born in the U.S. Hello DJohn78! I've been wondering where you have been hiding!!! this is not an anti voting message...I want to vote like the rest of you.

I said anti voter ID. If you are elegible to be a citizen and you lack the proper documents I would assume that your congressman could help.

Have you contacted an attorney? You don't have to prove you were born in the US just that you are a US citizen or are here legally. If you have some sort of citizenship papers that would be all you need. You don't have to be born in the US to receive a drivers license. I know many people who were not born here who hold Texas drivers licenses.

It's an election year there will be a lot of opinions voiced that's what happens in any forum. I even see it on my FB page by some of my FB friends posting their little pictures etc.

The political season has been unusually long because of starting the Repbulican primaries so early. I feel an election has been happening forever. Mostly, I go to whitehouse.gov, factcheck.org, and mediamatters.org for my information. Then, I watch the television talking heads on all the major stations to see how far off the mark they are. It is interesting to see how people spin facts and just plain make them up. If people don't do their own research and listen to what is being said, they can make big mistakes in the ballot box.
