Has the economy affected your family or friends in the last few years?

Have you adjusted your spending because of it?

Do you expect the future to be better or stay about the same?

Do you save more now?

I do believe we suffer less from changes in the economy in the Houston area. It appears the economy is still in good shape here.

Answer your own questions, Sillystring? How has this effected you?

I have not been effected by the economy, thank goodness, but, I am retired, own my home and cars, and have no debt. This makes it a lot easier than when I was young.

The wall street mess had me losing money....that was troublesome.

Fortunately, we have not been affected. I wonder about young families with children and if it has impacted their lives.

I wonder about college kids and their employment opportunities....if they are better in our area.

As I stated before, I think we have a much stronger economy than other places.

We are talking The Woodlands on this forum. I seriously doubt that people who can afford to live here have been as effected as in other areas of the city or the country. There are states who have been drastically effected as the unemployment statistics have shown. We need the companies who are sitting on their obscene profits to create more jobs and it will help the economy. People want to work, to have their homes and children. As people spend more, the corporations will do better, as well.

I'm sure you are probably right, sstone. The Woodlands has a very low foreclosure rate, also.

Sales tax appears good. People are still buying. Housing market really doesn't look that bad either.

I would guess that Montgomery County is doing just fine.

I know a few college grads that are still looking for jobs, but that's about it.

The economy has not had much impact on my family other than getting some good deals on furniture and cars. I find that most people are willing to negotiate much more these days. Of course our retirement took a hit but we did not panic and it was only a temporary drop. My wife has actually moved jobs twice since 2008 so there are lots of jobs available if you know how to find them and how to get a foot into the door. She gets recruiting emails call monthly, sometimes weekly.

My parents are retired and busy traveling and doing whatever retired folks do every day.

My in-laws have hit some tuff times as result of the economy but at the same time they are not very flexible.
much more.

The economy has not affected us due to our occupations being in demand. I do believe that college grads nowadays need to major in something marketable. A general studies degree will pose a challenge for them now. Twenty or so years ago *any* degree could land you a job. Not so much anymore. There are several factors into play, but I feel there is much more competition than in the past.

I agree. Kids entering college this coming Fall may want to rethink their plans for the future.

Agreed. I'm a geography junkie and started college with geography as my major. I later wised up and got a degree in business.
