Anybody gone on a tour of the Wineries around Fredricksburg, Boerne, west of Austin?
Looks like there are dozens to visit, plus lots of B&B's to stay in.
We have been to Fredericksburg / Stonewall many times. Here are some of the highlights:
Places I have stayed and they were all great places:
Tin Star Ranch
LBJ Ranch (guest house)
Settlers Crossing (this is our favorite)
B&B on the Becker’s vineyard
Wineries:
William Chris (our favorite) - small boutique winery excellent wine
Pedernales Cellars -excellent wine
Grape Creek – excellent grounds and location. Staff can be a bit snooty.
Torre di Peitra – we had great time at this place, excellent outdoor area and live music.
Becker – This was one of our favorites but our last two visits were not so great. The staff has become very snooty and unhelpful and they are all about $$$.
There are many more than these and they start to get better as the day goes on!
Resturants:
Rose Hill Manor – great for a romantic date
Der Lindenbaum – Great German food
Hill Top Café – (out on Hwy 87) old filling station converted into restaurant a must if you have the time
Navajo Grill – we had great game food here
Fredericksburg Brewing Co – great for casual lunch or dinner.
I found many of the B&B's already booked. FYI, Becker shut their B & B down.
Finally landed on one just east of Fredericksburg on 290, so it's in the heart of the 290 Wine Trail. I used Absolute Charms booking service to find Rocky Hills B & B. I gave them our criteria and she pointed us to one we were looking at.
Nice service with a lot of choices to see from one site.
Ten years ago when we first started to go you could just pop over on a weekend and stay just about anyplace. Now many of these places book up 6 month to 1 year in advance especially in the spring and summer.
