That is great! I think it is over due. Gay marriage in no way threatens non-gay marriages. It just assures gay people some of the same things, such as joint tenancy in their homes instead of tenancy in common, which is now the law. That is only one right that married people have. Keeping the "sanctity" of marriage is not a valid argument....look at Newt Gingrich and countless others. I have been married more than once, as well. It is such a silly argument. If all the people in Texas, who are gay, got married tomorrow, you would not even notice.
I certainly hope so, Hookem. Gay bashing has been the norm for awhile. It is not fashionable to talk ill about women, blacks, Hispanics, Jews, etc., but, gays are still "open season". I hate that anyone in our country can be discriminated against.
I guess I am old school. IMO, marriage should be between a man and a woman.
If they want benefits for their partner, go with civil unions.
I don't think gays would get "bashed" so much if they wouldn't flaunt their lifestyle in your face. I don't care what anyone does in their bedroom, it is not my business. I don't like people who flaunt ther homosexuality like it is some kind of merit badge.
I am not sure what you mean by "flaunt". If you are referring to public displays of affection, I am not comfortable with that in either straight people or gay people.
It is the whole coming out thing! It's the parades and BS! Do we really need a gay pride parade? Why do people feel a need to "come out?" If I am not your spouse or your mother, I don't care and don't need to know your sexual preference. Gays have an "in your face" attitude. they wear their sexual preference like a merit badge. It is ridiculous and most of us don't want or need to know anyone else's sexual preference, unless it is a spouse and most of us know that already.
Ok, why have a Greek Festival, Italian Festival, New York St Patrick's Irish parade, October fest for Germans, and on and on. Parades on Juneteenth for African/Americans. Do you think they are "flaunting"?
For whatever reason, a large percentage of gay men possess creative genius. Some are really amazing.
This being said, pride in who you are because of your sexual preference makes no sense to me. It is just my opinion, but to me it is an "in your face" kind of thing.
Like I said before, I am old school, and someone's sexual preference is just none of my business. I'm sure others see things differently and that is okay with me.
Very well said, Hookem! Unless one has been repressed, it is difficult to understand how freeing it is to be able to be "out" in the open. Thanks for putting into words what I was thinking.
