I agree, Sillystring. There is still a denial in this country about alcohol vs drugs. People still think if you are a drug addict that it is so much worse than drinking too much. Nothing could be further from the truth. Alcohol not only impairs judgement, as in the case of these drivers, but, tears apart families, causes many forms of abuse on spouses and children, loses millions of dollars in production from workers who are hung over or not showing up on Mondays. It goes on and on. These are only the highlights. And, unfortunately, with Texas being reluctant to spend money on good treatment, there are not many places to go that are worth their salt. Some states, the penalty for the first DWI, you go to jail or to state run treatment. However, they have a state income tax to pay for it. We just have to hope we are not in the way of one of those drivers next time.
