Is it legal for a Republican State Rep to run for office if he has a IRS problem?

Don't know the answer to that but compare it to some of Obama's cabinet members.

A little over two months in office and here’s the list of Obama favorites who don’t understand the tax code but are responsible for saving the “worst economy since the Great Depression:”

■Tim Geithner
■Tom Daschle
■Hilda Solis
■Ron Kirk
■Nancy Killefer

old article but interesting:

Living in The Woodlands my only concern is that our republican state rep does not pay his IRS taxes.

Obviously law makers and politicians don't have to pay the IRS, just the lowly citizens.

There should be a law that says you cannot run for office or be involved in a re-election campaign unless you pay your taxes.

Right, following our own laws ought to be a no brainer.

Where is an article on this? Are you speaking of Congresman Brady?

People do have IRS problems. If he and his wife are trying to solve the problem, then it should not matter if he is running for office. Very often taxpayers have confliting opinions with the IRS.

The point is no elected official running for public office should ever have an IRS problem. Or at least clean it up before running for offie.

I don't see what one has to do with the other. Problems with the IRS don't make you a criminal or a person of bad character.
