We are in the process of moving to Houston from California. We would like to move to The Woodlands. I've googled all that I can about the area. It's seems like a wonderful place!! We are a bi-racial family and I'm not quite sure how that is perceived in Texas. My children will be in high school, and it's very important to me that they have a smooth transition.

Welcome to the Woodlands, Oliviavallere! I think you will like it here. While there are ignorant people every where I don't think Texas has any more than anyone else... maybe less. We are not a tiny little backwoods town or anything like that. Let us know when you get here!
My family just moved here about 7 months ago and it has been an incredible experience. There is so much to do right here in The Woodlands and infinite possibilities in Houston and Conroe. Houston has the culture, theatre, endless shopping, etc. and Conroe has the Lake! Lake Conroe is awesome. We have been to 3 concerts already because the pavillion is two miles away. The schools here are a part of CISD and we are very pleased so far this school year.
The Woodlands is a great place to live. I have been here since 2000. I have one child in high school and another in junior high. I know other biracial families who have/had lived in here and they found it very accepting. If you need any information about the schools or neighborhoods I can give you all of my information and experiences.
I don't think there is a problem with any bi-racial family in The Woodlands. On our block are several Hispanics (some from Mexico and others from Columbia and other Spanish speaking countries), one Asian, one mixed black and white family, a gay couple, a young white couple living together, and many I have not met, yet. I am glad our neighborhood is so diverse. It makes it far more interesting.
there are many tongues and peoples represented in this area. did you check the school website, conroeisd.net
it should have demographics and such (I also teach HS)
my husband is from CA too, and we have lots and lots of friends from all over CA. now they are true Texans for life, lol!
what company do you work with
I am sure your family will be very welcomed here! Like others said there are many different people from all different backgrounds as it is a very diverse area.
We just moved here from Virginia. We live in Creekside village and really love it. My feeling is, if you can't afford to live in the city of Houston than the Woodlands is the only other place to live. It has everything. My husband works in Houston and he says the commute is not anywhere near as bad as it was in the Washington, DC area. I hope you will enjoy living here.
My son lives in CA and every time he visits here he with his family he would love to move here O fcourse his job is in CA so that is not going to happen. I moved here from MI and love it. There is so much to do. I was in Real Estae in MI but love being in Real Estate here in The Woodlands. Be happy to send you a package fro the Home Finding Center if you would like. Good luck with your move. Betty Lips RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring.
Woodlands is fabulous place to raise kids. My kids have biracial friends and it has never been an issue for any of them. I have listed and sold homes for several biracial families so I don't believe you will find the majority of people here to have an issue which your family. We are a pretty educated group. Please let me know if I can help you any further.
