I was hoping to find the forums on this website to mainly consist of local issues we have to deal with, maybe good news about neighbors, news about street or cul-de-sac issues, perhaps some fun places to go and eat or other entertainment we could all enjoy. I'm seeing a lot of political back and forth, some name calling and bashing each other. Shouldn't we want to put our best foot forward and be above all that on here ? I do live in TW, but if I were an out of town visitor, maybe looking to move here, I would be disappointed by the lack of local information. there used to be a different local forum where we would talk about our neighborhoods, maybe some crime info, traffic, roads, etc.that forum has closed, but I was hoping to find something similar here. Sorry, just ranting. No one is home for me to crab to, so I picked on you people !! But, I would like more local info.
If people ask or post about local information others will reply. I have seen some discussions on it. I haven't seen any forums that are totally dedicated to local information, during an election year they all have political posts on them. I remember one that I left because the people who were running them got downright rude when you didn't agree and threatened to ban you because you didn't agree with them
There's plenty of threads here not related to politics that get quite the response.
There's been numerous threads on Trader Joe's, including one where a Trader Joe's employee posted asking for advice on The Woodlands. The owner of Pallotta's gave me an earful after criticizing his restaurant. Just recently Direct Buy unleashed sock puppets on a thread about them.
I think these boards are more influential than you think. If only the local politicians would drop in.
We have covered most things in The Woodlands as time goes by. We are all interested in what goes on here, as well. The politics raises a lot of passion in people, so, sometimes the words get more intense, thus, feeling more angry or hostile than the person meant them to be. Also, talking about cooking or gardening or things like that don't keep our interest very long.
Like someone said, just post a queery or a statement that you want to talk about and we will ablige.

I missed the Pallota's thread. We went there once and it was okay, but we haven't been back. What did the owner say to you?
I agree that the boards are a good place for advice on lots of local things like restaurants, handymen, etc.

It was good when it first opened years ago, it was called Sgettis(sp). But then it started tasting like they were cooking food that had been frozen and we never went back again. I have heard a lot of people said it went down hill.
Well, we happen to like Palottas. It is not a chain, and I believe in supporting local, independent businesses. We also like Black Walnut, Hubbel and Hudson, etc. I think maybe H&H is associated w/ Black Walnut. I could be mistaken though. Brothers is the best for pizza, in my opinion. There are some good, maybe better places in Houston, but who wants to do that drive just to go out to eat ?
Black Walnut used to be associated with Pallotas. I would support them if their food was good, but the last time I was there it wasn't. I think Black Walnut is expensive for what you get.
Other forums I have visited (and been a moderator on) have had an OT (off topic) forum where all the political stuff goes.
I would highly suggest one here too. People learn that if they don't want to be dragged down into the political discussions, they simply do not go into the OT Forum.

That's what I was telling the owner!
I thought I found the thread, but it was another thread about the restaurant.

Mw and my wife like them too. They have a couple of pasta dishes I like, along w/a glass of wine..... IB happy boy.
I know friends that swear by Carrabas, but I don't care for it.
I guess that is why there are so many restaurants..
Yeah, I don't particularly care for Carrabas. It's on my 'only if we must" list, along with Olive Garden. We have gone to Spaghetti Warehouse in Houston a few times. Locally, we also like Brio.
