Kayaking
Jun 19, 2010 - 11:17 am
I just got back from kayaking on the Woodlands Waterway. It opens at 9;00 and for 15 dollars we had our own boat and an hour to paddle around the water. It was good exercise and the day was beautiful. Most of us were not experienced but after a little bit of unintentional bumper boat stuff we all were able to go just about as fast as we wanted to.There was a breeze and just enough splashing that it wasn't horribly hot. I may do it again next week.

Sounds like fun! I've always wanted to give it a try. Did you get the kayaks from the Riva Row Boathouse?

We did. We were the first ones there at 9:00. It was something I will do again. Remember sun scree ! One of my friends ended up with a sun burn and that was after she had been on the water only one hour.

We did the mom and me and kayak class that they offer. i was expecting the instructor to "teach us" how to kayak, but he pretty much just waited for us to figure stuff out. it was our first time to kayak, and we figured it out pretty fast.

you may also bring a bag of goodies (WATER for hydration and snacks) in the kayak so you don't burn out so easily

Riva Row Boat house is terrific! They were informative, helpful and kind. I was out Saturday and in a 2 person kayak. My friend and I were amazed at how easy it was, I had been in a canoe before, but not her. Next time our list includes; sunscreen, a hat, a trash bag and latex gloves. It is sad to see the amount of trash in the lake, we both felt inspired to pick up what we could. The guy at the boat house thanked us and said he does the same when he goes out. We saw mud nests and birds on the bridge and turtles sunning, There was a huge carp circling our kayak, we hummed the tune to Jaws :~) Planning the next trip... Looking for a kayak...

That is too funny! My oldest daughter and I were there today too! Loved it! We arrived about ten and really enjoyed it. I find it very spiritual to go early in the morning (I have my own kayak but it went thru the front window of my car, I rent now so we have to wait until the boathouse opens) before it gets too hot.
Great exercise!

our people on this forum could get those long, skinny boats that hold several rowers and pick teams. I will shout and you can row.
