Greetings! This post is for individuals or a small group interested in Spanish or English tutoring at any level. I am a highly experienced master’s degree level, state and internationally certified teacher. I have taught Spanish among many other subjects in elementary schools. My 11 years of teaching experience includes teaching and tutoring English as a Second Language (ESL) as a professor in Central America and at the middle school and elementary level. Additionally, I have experience teaching special education and understand students who learn differently.
I discovered the challenges and opportunities involved in learning second languages while living and working in Central America and attending multiple international Spanish language institutes. My experiences have taught me about the importance of creating appropriate context and tools to guide language learners to the next level.
My philosophy of teaching is interactive, dynamic, engaging and individualized, tailored to the learning needs of each student. Each learner brings a unique learning style, background experiences and purpose for learning. Teaching students strategies to learn language and creating the context for this environment is essential in language learning.

I never introduced myself, I am Hookem and I like all things UT. My entire family, and my wife's family, studied at UT (my brother is the black sheep and attended USM). I am a husband and dad to two small children (4 & 7), and enjoy traveling (domestic & international), college football, cooking shows, karate, art, wine, water sports, and fine dinning.
Hookem, my son-in-law is a UT grad. They have a big orange blanket on the couch with huge, white, longhorn head on it. lol. I know it is a wonderful school, but those colors????

All the Longhorn stuff is in my study. I have autographed footballs, lots of 2005 National Champions stuff, helmets, snow globes and other chotchkies, and of course my degrees. Since I grew up with UT stuff I have always been accustom to the colors. Growing up my dad had a Longhorn study with burnt orange shag. I did not go that far in our house.
