It will be time for the kiddos to go back to school. I head back in 22 days. I'm excited for a new year and a new group of kids!!! I love my job and I love having time to refresh during the summer. I'm ready to go back with a renewed spirit.

Is she an administrator or counselor? I think our counselors start back next week on Monday.

she is an AP .

She would have been happy to stay home a little longer this time. Her DD is leaving for her first year of college next month.

Remember when everyone started back the day after Labor Day?

Yes, I remember and we didn't have a Spring Break here in Texas way back when and we got President's Day off (which we don't now). But we also have more required days in school then we did back then so they have to fit in somewhere!

Actually, teaching, as as time off goes, is still a really great profession. Imagine if you had just two weeks off like so many jobs. Being able to do things in the summer is great. Plus, to have the two weeks off at Christmas is such a wonderful thing. I hope this austerity stuff doesn't change all that for you.

The school year schedule would have to change.

Austerity should not change anything either. Teachers are usually paid year round, but the actual pay is for the actual school year and it is just spread over the 12 months.

Teachers truly earn their paychecks. I would never be able to do their job. It is a career that requires a patient, kind and giving heart for ALL children.

If you think teachers have the whole summer off and do nothing you are sadly mistaken. We are required to attend professional development in order to keep our job and some to renew our certification. My salary is based on 10-1/2 months but I can guarantee you my job doesn't end when school does.

I spent most of the month of June in Professional Development.

As do most professions! But then most professionals have to work 12 months each year and still get their certifications completed.

And they get paid a whole lot more. I used to work in the business world. My salary today is what it was when I worked in the business world in 1991. Although the kids are in school from 9-4 my day is a lot longer.

If I got paid for everyday I worked outside of my contract my salary would be much higher.

And that is your choice. So why do you whine about it?

Why is it everything is whining, no one is whining, just stating the FACTS. Geez you need to stop attacking people and open your EARS and listen to others. Why is it you have to go into attack mode with everything everyone on here says. The only person you never attack is stone.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that she was whining about it, are you reading tea leaves in your spare time?

The way I read it she was just stating facts.
