Houston ranks #1

as the nation's fattest city. This is not a ranking we should be proud about. It does seem to me that I see more and more obese people out and about. So sad.

Doesn't surprise me with all the time people here spend sitting in their cars and driving thru the ubiquitous fast food places.

Doesn't surprise me. We have held this title before. John and I are looking forward to assisting people into creating their own healthy lifestyle. We have started the program ourselves and between the 2 of us in 2 weeks we have lost 30 lbs! If anyone is interested, you can private message me or djohn78 and we will be glad to assist you with information!

Would it be any better if we we're #6 or #12? We are a society on decline and this is just another example of it. I know the topic is fatness, but I can't resist. We add more socialism, take away more capitalism. We (The USA) wonder why we continue to move down the economic food chain.

Why take care of yourself when the government is taking control of more and more of our personal responsibilities? No one is responsible for anything that happens in their life. It's always someone else's fault when something happens. Like,,,, I crashed my car into the back of the guy who stopped to fast,,,, I am fat,,,, I have no money,,, I have no job,,,

You could go on and on. We on a downhill slide as a society and just elect people who tell us we are the greatest society on earth. We are being passed by by many countries.

We burn our food (ethanol), export our fuel, Nat gas, continue buying oil from people who hate us.... We are #1 in something.... STUPIDITY

It is no one's fault, but the people who are not eating properly.........and I am included in that. I spent 7 months in an RV waiting for this house to be built to move in.......gained 30 pounds. The government had nothing to do with it..........boredom and lack of excercise did it.

Most of this is cause by a thing called "dessert."

The parents need to take action, as well as the children.
We went from #2 to #1 in a year.

Kind of sad.

I think a major paart of the problem is fast food. So many moms work and kids have so many activities that their moms don't have the time to fix a homecooked meal every night. They end up pulling in the drive-thru on the way to the kids activities are on the way home. It is tough for working moms. They are just as tired as the Dads.

It would be great if all the husbands knew how to cook, too. Then there would be a good chance, between the two of them, dinner could make it to the table.

The other problem is the absolute crap kids are fed at school. I cannot believe that someone has not done something about the school menu. I am only familiar with the food that is served in elementary school.

You have children who do not get meals at home because parents cannot afford the groceries. The only food some of them get is at school and it's trash at the elementary level.

Does anyone wonder if it could be what they are putting in the food? Cows, chickens injected and fed hormones. Genetically grown crops, etc. Not to mention the high frutos corn syrup and artificial sweeteners put into everyday food to make it taste better in order to sell.

The article below talks about the flavor industry.

I have chronic headaches and have had them for over 30 years. When in Italy, I had 5 days free of headaches until it clouded up for rain. Now, I had not had 5 days in my memory that were headache free. The obvious answers are the air quality and the quality of the food. I was amazed. It makes me very aware how awful our air is and the junk they put in our food. Did you read where Whole Foods is getting their "organic" frozen veggies from China? I have to be more aware of checking labels to see if China is stamped on packages.
