Of course TXDeb, but we as a matter of policy choose to continue funding a failed war on drugs. It's not free. We choose to giveaway untold millions in corporate welfare. It's not free. We cut educational funding, yet give away millions to subsidise huge sports stadiums owned by millionaires and billionaires. We fund the building of prisons for the benefit of private corporations. These corporations have in their contract a minimum cell occupancy that when is not meet, you and I pick up the tab. My point is the funds are there, is a matter of moral fortitude and priorities that place the well-being of all citizens ahead of narrow interests.

There are programs that take homeless mothers and provide them with a place to live and daycare, plus job training. No one hears of the successes that come out of those programs. All we hear are the generations of welfare people. I don't know the statistics, but they cannot be in the majority.

People who live in poverty, (not all but most) think differently. They will spend their money on the things that give them immediate pleasure. A lot will not encourage their children to get a good education because to those parents the children will move away and they will not see them again, in a way they see the children as possessions. There are places who help the homeless, and help them to get a job, get an apartment and get on their feet, if they chose to help themselves. We have donated items/money to places that do this. Some people choose to keep the situation they are in, some will choose to make it better. I have know some people who are on welfare and I wonder exactly why can't they work some sort of job and how the continually qualify.

There 14 and counting to choose from in the GOP side. Donald is running really strong after his racist xenophobic rant aim at Mexicans.

Was he wrong? Are there not rapists and drug lords coming in through our open door border? Are there not rare diseases popping up? Open your eyes.

Is that the job of the government? There are plenty of churches and non profits who do this. We need to get the government out of the business of "helping people" and focus on their true obligations.

Please name all the churches that do this. I only know of soup kitchens and clothing or food drives.

I don't have the time to dig into this topic but if you open your eyes you might see it.
I did a simple search and I found this list. Oddly most of these have religious names which probably means they are funded by churches. Even if a single church doesn't operate one (I bet there are several in the area) doesn't mean they don't support them. I know my tiny church does.

These are the standard responses I read on other websites. I just find it strange it seems to be universal.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just making an observation.

Edited to add: I like to read what other people think and hear their opinions, but once the name calling starts....haters, morons, racists, etc., I lose respect for that person and any further interest in their opinion.

Liberal and Conservatives have very different ideas about things and we can't seem to find middle ground anymore. I think we need to find middle ground.

Silly, you are right. Just because one poster was not aware and happened to use the same analogy, doesn't say it doesn't exist. Yes, I have heard a lot of pundits call it the Clown Car.

The majority of support for these organizations is the government. You said that you thought churches were doing this work. I say, if there are any, they are few and far between. It is a costly endeavor.

Churches have had to quit handing out food in Houston in about 2013. It is now illegal to hand out food to the homeless. The church I was attending at the time had to stop handing out in Conroe and Houston. They do hand out clothing and blankets since legally that is all they are allowed to do now.

In Houston it is a $500 fine to hand out food.

My church has set up in a local park and fed the homeless just recently. If it's illegal in Conroe we ignored the law.
Sstone I run a business, I don't have time to run around searching the financial records of charities. I found a list of faith based organizations. I didn't check their ledger to see where the money comes from. IF government got out of the homeless business I promise you that God's troops would fill the gap and do a better job!!!

After trillions of dollars of deficit spending, we still have homeless people. I'm sure if the govt gave every homeless person $100,000, it still would not lick the problem.
