Has anyone read the "Hunger Games"

Has anyone read the "Hunger Games"

It's our granddaughter's 11th Birthday. She would like the "Hunger Games" book series. Does anyone know if this is age appropriate for an 11 year old reader?

It might be a little bit too old for her. They are fairly violent and there are some romantic themes throughout. I know they were written for young adults, but 11 might be just a little bit young. You can usually preview the first few pages of a book on Amazon, though I'm not sure if you'd get to see enough to really decide.

thanks I really appreciate your comments. I hate violent themes especially when it involves children.

I wouldn't say that the books have gratuitous violence, but the author is definitely trying to make some points about violence, war, and the impact on society and children - so not really fluffy stuff.

Yeah we just started reading them and I would say she might be too young. But you can reap the first chapter online.

I read it and it is fine for an 11yo. It is a bit violent, but not as sponge bob!

It's a big too much for an 11 year old I think, but not all 11 year old's are the same. It's very well written though and a great introduction to good writing for a young person.
