Where do they pick up hand, foot and mouth disease? I have not heard of that since I was very young.

Chuck e cheese is a breeding ground for it. It's a virus but it can live up to 7 days on an object. Most of the playground play places don't get sanitized. The rash appears after they have been infected for a few days. So people are unaware and take their sick kids to these places.

Ugh, I have wondered about all those kids with runny noses and eating in the same places that they crawl all over. Even, McDonald's seems like a pretty pewey place for kids to play. I would think with all the restrictions on restaurants that they would be, by law, required to clean these place at least 3 times a week.

I am pretty sure that my son got it at Gymboree class. We were there 2 days in a row for some makeup classes and then got sick about 3 or 4 days later. I was flabbergasted when the doctor told me it was hand-foot-mouth b/c I didn't realize how common and contagious it is.

Yes extremely contagious. We tend to frequent these places less and less. It will probably less now that my.son has been diagnosed with subclass immunodeficiency. I probably won't be able to send him to preschool in the fall. We have to wait 2 weeks for a more specialized test to see if he will outgrow it or not.

Me too, Blair and John. Having a child that is not able to be around a lot of other kids would be very difficult for you and for him. I hope the tests are on the positive side.

It's sad the old metal playground equipment is a thing of the past. It didn't harvest germs, all you did was scrape your knee, cry it out for a minute, then get back to playing.

Pump it Up is another breeding ground for colds, disease, etc. Every time my Grandson goes there he comes home with colds, etc.

Hope you little ones are OK !
