I've heard rumors that the Township Visitors and Convention Bureau would love to erect a giant, very high speed, Roller Coaster along the Waterway near Lake Woodlands. They want a big time tourist/international traveler draw.
Do you really think they could get taxpayer support for that, after all the flack they're getting for the horse patrols, waterway taxis, etc?
One would think not, BUT..consider that the vast majority of residents are very apathetic...only about 5000 out of 50000 registered voters voted in recent Board Election, and only 2500 elected the 4 to the Board...so TW is in effect "controlled" by about 2500 voters... a community of 90000!! Many of these voters are "connected" to each other by businesses, organizations, politics, etc.
So..Yes, there would be an outcry, and the Board would "appear" to listen, BUT when push comes to shove, the Board and Visitors Bureau both know they can pretty much do as they please...and they have, with patrols and boats, and other spending, grants to Shenandoah, Oak Ridge, etc.

Very good point, xonel. It's amazing so few can control so much. Talking to people during the recent Township election, I found most people were completely apathetic about voting or who would win. I would venture to guess that the majority of Woodlands residents don't even know what the Township's duties are.
Well I supposed for a project of this magnitude it moves very slowly. When I first heard about it the theme park portion of it was to be completed in late 2011 - obviously that is no longer the case since they have not even broken ground.
