Have you guys heard about EarthQuest Adventures? It's going to be a 500-acher theme park resort that is comming to Montgomery County.
Here is the website: http://www.earthquestadventures.com/

I've heard rumors that the Township Visitors and Convention Bureau would love to erect a giant, very high speed, Roller Coaster along the Waterway near Lake Woodlands. They want a big time tourist/international traveler draw.

You're kidding, right? I guess it worked well for Kemah. Do you really think they could get taxpayer support for that, after all the flack they're getting for the horse patrols, waterway taxis, etc?

I love themeparks. This could be fun. Would definately bring jobs and tourist which will help the local economy. Not sure what it will do to property values though

One would think not, BUT..consider that the vast majority of residents are very apathetic...only about 5000 out of 50000 registered voters voted in recent Board Election, and only 2500 elected the 4 to the Board...so TW is in effect "controlled" by about 2500 voters... a community of 90000!! Many of these voters are "connected" to each other by businesses, organizations, politics, etc.

So..Yes, there would be an outcry, and the Board would "appear" to listen, BUT when push comes to shove, the Board and Visitors Bureau both know they can pretty much do as they please...and they have, with patrols and boats, and other spending, grants to Shenandoah, Oak Ridge, etc.

I don't think there is enough space for anything like that on the Water Way.

Plenty of space from Joint Powers (Water) Building onward to Lake Woodlands...many projects here last several years are very "high density".

Very good point, xonel. It's amazing so few can control so much. Talking to people during the recent Township election, I found most people were completely apathetic about voting or who would win. I would venture to guess that the majority of Woodlands residents don't even know what the Township's duties are.

Earthquest is coming to East Montgomery County. The question is "when"? It will be off Hwy 59 near Roman Forest and FM 242. Huge! Go to www.earthquest.com

The funding issue was still unanswered as of as recently as a month or two ago, but I know lots of people are pushing hard to make it happen.

Try this link instead, the other link was working.

http://www.earthquestadventures.com/

Well I supposed for a project of this magnitude it moves very slowly. When I first heard about it the theme park portion of it was to be completed in late 2011 - obviously that is no longer the case since they have not even broken ground.

But I do think it will happen in the long run. There is a non-profit side to this venture - The EarthQuest Institute http://www.earthquestadventures.com/development/insi
and a for profit side - the actual theme park and resorts http://www.earthquestadventures.com/development/them

I think the jobs and economic development it would bring to the area will out weigh any negative side effects.

Don't you think so?
