There are very few professions that ask a person to risk his life. I feel policemen and firefighters are very underpaid. They ought to be worth at least the salary of, say, an engineer. It is ridiculous what we pay our first responders.

Firemans pensions for Houston are over the top, or at least they used to be. I don't know about the policemen.

When they put it into effect, they should have had the good sense to know they could not keep it funded.
