There are a lot of cycling groups that know the rules of the road and would be a good bet. Woodlands cycling club and Bike Lane are two good ones to start with. There are a lot of roads with large shoulders. Knowing where they are and how to plan your route takes time. 1488 has a new massive shoulder. Jackson road just added a shoulder. 105 has large shoulders. If you venture further north into Montgomery where the riding is better, definitely take a veteran with you or ride in a larger group. It'll be safer. There are some fantastic rural roads NE of Willis with very little traffic. At the end of the day, it's WAY better here than in Houston. That place is a death trap for riders, unless you go to Hershey or Bush park. Good luck!
